The English Premier League has been in high demand and has huge expectations from the new season of 2023-24 to deliver the world football audience the same hype again the previous weekend. It gave the world an additional cherry on the cake for football fans, if not less. Football fans all over the globe have been waiting for this football league to begin again since May. Moreover, the transfer market showcased several players who left and many world-class players adding their names to the list of the oldest football league in the world, making the wait of the fans more worthwhile. Fans have great expectations from their respective English clubs as they have developed themselves mentally, physically and most importantly, by buying players and improving their weaknesses leading every club to shine better this season.

With new players, coaches and newly appointed captains from respective clubs, let’s analyse the matches that happened this opening English Premier League weekend.

Starting the weekend with two defending champions in their respective fields were Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and the newly promoted team, Burnley who were winners of the previous season, English Premier League, second division. The match went quite in favour of Manchester in Blue where the team won their first game of defending the title by 3-0. Erling Haaland’s two goals were the alarming hits of the match added by Rodri’s end-moment shot.

Later, there were matches like Arsenal vs. Nottingham which went 2-1 in favour of Arsenal due to the constant dominance of Arsenal’s star winger, Saka and forward Nketiah. Followed by Sheffield United vs. Crystal Palace set a competitive match among itself although Sheffield was promoted to the English Premier League after a gap of two years. The match ended in favour of Crystal Palace after Edouard scored a goal for the Palace in the 49th minute. Later, West Ham and Bournemouth had a clash between each other ending the match in a score of 1-1. Brighton faced their first match against newly promoted team Lutton Town, who got themselves promoted in the league after many decades. The season is a challenge for Brighton this time after losing some big players like Alex Mac Allister, Caicedo and Robert Sanchez to big competitive clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea. The Brighton vs Everton match ended 4-1 in Brighton’s favour. Everton’s first match was against Fulham, who had a well-balanced formation. The match was evenly matched, but Fulham took advantage of Everton’s poor defence and baffling play by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the 73rd minute, leading to an easy goal and a 1-0 victory for Fulham. Newcastle United, a newly qualified UEFA Champions League team, faced Aston Villa in the last match on Saturday. Newcastle dominated the match, with newly purchased players Sandro Tonali and Harry Barnes scoring goals, as well as experienced player Alexander Isak scoring two and Callum Wilson scoring one. Aston Villa’s newly purchased striker Diaby scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough to help the team, and the match ended 5-1. The final closing match of the weekend was one of the top competitors of Europe facing each other i.e. Liverpool vs. Chelsea. Both teams aimed to cover up their poor past performance. Liverpool initially dominated the match, but Chelsea picked up the pace and eventually dominated the entire game, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Mohammad Salah assisted Luiz Diaz for the Reds’ goal in the 18th minute, which was equalized by Alex Disasi, the newly bought defender for the Blues from AS Monaco. Liverpool’s defence and Chelsea’s developing gameplay could be seen in the pitch once again.
